I’m Rachel and I live here at Ty Newydd with my husband Sid and our two children. It was in the late 80’s, Sids parents bought Ty Newydd and dug out the marina and started Cambrian Cruisers holiday boats. Ruth (Sids Mother) did bed and breakfast from the house for a number of years to help support the family and growing business.
Jonathan, Sids brother had more of an interest in canal boats than Sid and followed in this father’s footsteps taking over the marina and Cambrian Cruisers with his wife Camilla. It was in 2009, after twelve years of working in London, Sid had the opportunity to put his DIY skills to the test. We returned to renovate Ty Newydd Farmhouse and resurrect the old family bed and breakfast business and to develop a new Holiday Cottage enterprise. Now the site is home to us all and our growing families.
Ty Newydd is in a fabulous central location, full of personality and makes a great base for explorers. Our Mission at Ty Newydd is to provide comfortable Welsh accommodation for walkers, bikers and explorers and all those who appreciate the peace of our rural surroundings at good value prices. We are continually making improvements and investments to make the business more environmentally friendly to sustain us into the future. We would love to think this place will still be here in another 300 years!
Built in the mid 1800’s, Ty Newydd Farmhouse has always worked hard for its living. Over the years it has seen many changes including the effects of the industrial revolution when the Mon and Brec Canal was built through its farmland and saw coal and lime been delivered down the valley. 130 years ago Farmer William Hall lived here with his wife and 10 children. Today it is home to our family and 8 guests. It appears to be a house built for lots of people and has always provided a home and income to those living here.
Ty Newydd is steeped in history and is in the Middle of the National park. The holiday accommodation has been sympathetic developed and restored in keeping with the surrounding area and its previous agricultural heritage. The process, has been long and hard but equally rewarding. Juggling family commitments, learning new skills, raising finances and doing as much of the work as possible ourselves it has been a lifestyle choice and not just a business.
